Tewksbury Country Club to Host Celebrity Poker Tournament

Who could possibly resist an evening filled with high rolling fun, celebrity appearances and a chance to benefit a great cause?

 On Saturday, April 2, the Tewksbury Country Club will be hosting its second annual “Send a Kid to Camp – Celebrity Poker Tournament” hosted by Donnie Wahlberg. With proceeds set to benefit the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation’s Camp Northbound program the evening is sure to be another huge success.

 Founded by Mark Wahlberg as a way to giveback to the local community, The Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation, Inc. has been serving inner city youth for 10 years.  According to their website, “It is the mission of the Mark Wahlberg Foundation to provide financial and community support to assist in making the dreams and ultimate potential of inner city youth become a reality.”

 Last year, The Tewksbury Country Club hosted the event for the first time and their relationship with the Wahlberg Foundation has been growing ever since.  The foundation returned to host a Christmas Party over the winter and is, once again looking forward to a fun filled celebrity poker event.

 Best of all you don’t have to be an experienced poker player to participate.

 “Last year one of the top ten winners had very little experience playing and did not expect to make it past the first round.” said Kathy Bligh, controller at The Tewksbury Country Club explained. “Even a regular player can walk away with a major prize.”

As the evening goes on players are eliminated in each round of play or “blind” but, in some cases, are offered an opportunity to “buy” back into play and, possibly, make it to the top.

 With a $25,000 prize pool which includes everything from seats at major poker tournaments to Boston Sports Fan Packages the tournament has something to tempt almost anyone into testing their skill at the tables.

 Exactly which celebrity players to expect at the event is a well kept secret. Any true Boston Sports fan, however, knows that neither the Celtics nor Bruins have games scheduled for April 2 and that could mean some pretty exciting guests could be available to make an appearance.

 Tickets to the Celebrity Poker Tournament are $250 for a player and $100 for a non-player and are available, in advance, at the Tewksbury Country Club. All checks should be made out directly to Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation.  Last year’s event was a sellout, so act fast.
